The Significance of Autumn

Autumn is my favorite season. The crisp air, the warm sweaters, picturesque foliage, pumpkin spice lattes. What is there not to like! It is by far one of the best seasons, especially in NYC - where the winters are too cold, and the summers too hot. But autumn is just right.

Autumn for me has always meant new experiences. For 16 years of my life, it meant a new school year. In my professional life, fall was always when I started both of my new jobs and started new projects.

Autumn began to signify growth for me. It was when I was taking everything I learned before and applying it to the new school year or the new job/ project.

It is odd to think about this growth happened when everything around me was falling. The leaves on the trees just fall to the ground, while I seem to grow.

But maybe somethings need to fall in order to grow. This year there is no new job, no new project, and no new school year- rather a continuation of some things. I don’t expect new experiences because COVID severely limits my ability to do many things.

Despite the lack of newness, I’m hoping to have the things about me that don’t serve me fall.

I hope this new me can experience the same old things with fresh eyes.
