2020 Wrapped
If only I can wrap up 2020, the same way Spotify wraps up my music every year. They say that this year is one that we will talk about with our grandchildren. But every time I try to put pen to paper, words get crossed out, and pages get thrown out. I feel limited by language to capture the juxtaposition of the gravity of this year to the mundaneness of each day.
It’s odd, no? How each day we were living and a part of history, yet, each day most of us were also glued to the same seat within the same four walls in the corner of our houses.
So what do I tell these grandchildren?
Maybe I can orate all the historical events we experienced. I can start with how we reigned in 2020 with wildfires in Australia. Then, describe how the world came to a complete standstill and was debilitated by a virus that started in a city some thousand miles away. I can report the boiling racial tensions that finally spilled over in the USA. I can reveal the makings of one of the most historic elections and how the results played out.
Or maybe I can point them to the hyper socialization of our world. When we all seemed distant, alone, and separated, we were all, in fact, connected through packets of data flowing through an interconnected network. This came with good and bad. As fake news spread and multiplied, virtual smiles made it bearable to be at home. Social media…
